FIRST HOME

Before moving to Melbourne, I spent 10 years in Canberra and I bought my first home there when I was 28. I was single and working in radio and TV at the time. The place was around $120,000, but it needed a bit of work. It was less than 25 minutes from work and close to the park, so it was an easy move-in house. I ended up asking one of the sound operators from work to move in with me too. It was a 1970s, two-bedroom brick home – it was okay, but nothing too flash.

CURRENT HOME

When I came to Melbourne to be the weatherman at Channel 10 about 25 years ago, I always wanted to live near a beach. We ended up buying an old Art Deco home Bayside and have been here ever since. It was liveable, but it needed a bit of freshening up. We did an extension, redid the kitchen, upstairs and added in a pool. Luckily it’s a nice home with four different study areas, because we were all working from home in lockdown last year while my kids were doing year 11 and 12. And I love that it’s about a five-minute walk to the beach.

DREAM HOME

It would have to be on the beach, looking out at the bay with water views, with a huge entertaining space, a huge games room and a huge theatre. We like to entertain a lot so it would be amazing to be able to have big parties. We often have pool parties and there’s always ‘80s music playing at our house. My wife Cathy is a fabulous cook, so it would have to have a wonderfully large kitchen too. I think it would still be Bayside – maybe in Brighton. Or somewhere in the south of France or Italy, like Positano or Tuscany, to get a villa and fix it up Under The Tuscan sun style.

His dream pad would be a prime setting for a pool party.
