A Mount Osmond home with an impressive life-size train track that winds its way around the large property has proved popular in its first week on the market.
It was the most viewed residential property listings on realestate.com.au across SA last week, and the second most viewed in the country.
Selling agent Pat Schinella of Agency Avenue Schinellas, said the level of interest in the one-of-a-kind home had been “amazing” so far.
“It was a mixture of buyers at the first open home, and there were a couple of guys who were just train enthusiasts who wanted to come and have a look,” he said.
“We’ve had all types of people calling us too.
“There are people who are more interested in the views than the home and would like to change a few things in the home, and there are others looking for space.”
The 700sqm home, which is on a sprawling 2770sqm allotment, has up to five bedrooms, an indoor pool, spa and sauna, and extensive indoor and outdoor living spaces.
Its panoramic views of the city and novelty train track built by the property’s 95-year-old owner Bob Nash are its standout features.
Mr Nash retired at 47 to take up model engineering and has treated his hobby as a full-time job until recently.
In his time at the home, Mr Nash has built seven steam trains and an electric tram – meticulously machining every single part in the property’s workshop.
“It’s not a toy track, it’s a serious, fun track and children of all ages are capable of driving the tram – it is as simple as (pulling) a lever,” Mr Nash’s son Peter said when it hit the market.
“Anybody that jumps on it, whether you’re five or 55, it doesn’t matter – you get a bit of a buzz out of it.”
While none of the family’s trains or the tram are included in the sale, Mr Nash said trains compatible with the track were commonly available.
However, he said prospective buyers not interested in trains could repurpose the underground tunnel, potentially as a wine cellar.
