Trendy Brunswick home goes almost $100k over reserve

2/13 Cassels Road, Brunswick, sold well above reserve at a competitive auction.

Not even a late bidder could stop a young first-homebuyer from snapping up her dream home in Brunswick.

Laura Brennan outbid five other parties to snag the trendy two-bedroom townhouse at 2/13 Cassels Road, which sold for $825,000 at auction on Saturday — almost $100,000 past its reserve.

The 25-year-old had only stepped inside the property half an hour beforehand, but said it was “just perfect.”

“(For me) it was about finding the right property,” she said.

“I’d been looking for a couple of months — not in a particular rush — but wanted to find the one.

“I feel amazing, I didn’t expect to win it because there was so much interest.”

Greenery surrounds the entrance to the home.

Sunlight streams into the main bedroom.

Bidding kicked off at $650,000 and steadily rose as a crowd of about 70 people looked on.

Vendors Vanessa Wilson and Simon DiPietrantonio were thrilled by the sale but said they would be sad to leave the home where they raised 8-month-old baby Olive.

“We’ve been here for five years and it’s been perfect for us, initially together and then for growing our family,” Ms Wilson said.

“We’re really sad we’ll be moving on — the lifestyle is great, it’s so diverse and vibrant. There’s a new cafe opening up every week.”

The home has a sleek, modern bathroom.

A second bedroom has been turned into a nursery.

Auctions case study

The pair said they “fell in love with its bones” before renovating the home in their own style. They are now looking to upsize on the Bellarine Peninsula.

Ray White Brunswick director and auctioneer Jamil Allouche said the property had attracted more than 100 groups at its first open home, and over 300 interested parties in total.

Open-plan living and dining means lots of space to entertain.

The dining area opens onto a large deck.

“It just went extremely well, we had 14 confirmed bidders but only six had the chance to put their hand up — and it was a young woman buying her first home that had the final bid, which is awesome,” Mr Allouche said.

“I think there’s a few first homebuyers out in the market at the moment and they’re coming in force.”
