When churches hit the market, they always cause a stir.

Whether it’s an original classic ripe for restoration or a converted stunner ready to be moved into and enjoyed – they just capture attention and imagination.

That’s exactly what Key 2 Sale Mount Gambier’s Gail Richards said has happened with the 26 William St, Allendale West property she’s just launched.

“We’ve been blown away by the level of interest – it’s come from far and wide, even from interstate and overseas, it’s been amazing,” Ms Richards said.

“Churches are unique, and this one was purposefully renovated by the previous owners to be used as Airbnb accommodation, however the current owners have used it for their own use – holidays and that type of thing.

“That uniqueness is what people enjoy about going on holidays – it’s something rather than a standard motel room and it comes with a story and I think the character just gives it that different vibe.”

The property consists of two separate buildings, both ideal as Airbnb accommodation – ‘The Church’ and ‘The Annexe’.

The Church is a renovated 1866-built church with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living and dining area with a luxe kitchen. Its high ceilings, leadlight windows and timber floors have been retained.

The Annexe is a self-contained single-bedroom apartment with a kitchenette, a bathroom and a private deck and courtyard.

They sit on a 2072sqm allotment with a six-bay shed, established low-maintenance gardens and plenty of parking.

“The owners have now decided to sell it – whether they want to move into it or use it as accommodation, the choice is theirs,” Ms Richards says.

“We’ve had a lot of inquiries in both regards.

“The Annexe could even be used as a work-from-home space for someone as well because it’s completely separate.

“There’s so much demand for a home office in a property now with COVID-19, and you could easily use that suite as a business – whether you consult or use it as a beauty parlour or a hairdresser, there are so many options there.

Ms Richards said the home was ideally located just five minutes from Port MacDonnell and 15 minutes from Mount Gambier.

“Allendale’s a little country township and it’s got a beautiful feel,” she said.

The properties come fully furnished, so all a new buyer needs to do is simply move in and enjoy.
